Driving

From Albury/Wodonga there are two options:

A. (Quickest) Travel to Bonegilla, then travel past or through Tallangatta, Koetong, Corryong, Khancoban.

B. Travel to Lake Hume Village, then over the Bethanga Bridge, then travel past or through Talgarno, Walwa, Tintaldra, Towong, Khancoban. Once at Khancoban follow the blue tourist signs to Queens Cottage in Pendergast Rd.

From Sydney there are two options:

A. (Quickest) Hume Hwy to South Gundagai over bridge to Tumut, Batlow, Tumbarumba, Tooma, Khancoban.

B. Queanbeyan, Cooma, Jindabyne, Thredbo, Khancoban

or From Cooma, Adaminaby, Cabramurra, Khancoban

Note 1. Cabramurra/Khancoban Rd. is closed in winter.

Note 2. Kosciuszko Alpine Way is open all year, chains required in winter, 4WD exempt.

Flying

Khancoban has a 5,000 feet long (1800 feet sealed), 960 feet AMSL runway, owned and maintained by the Snowy Mountains Authority (SMA). Landing permission must be obtained from the SMA's Doug Rendoth on 02 6453 2922 or 0407 248 502 and the following information must by e-mailed to doug.rendoth@snowyhydro.com.au

 

Name and contact details, including:

  • Emergency contact number
  • Aircraft type and registration
  • Date and time of expected arrival and departure
  • Returned approval will be given ASAP

 

Current radio frequencies are 125.2 (Melbourne Centre) and 126.7 (CTAF) however check ERSA. Other details are in current AOPA Aerodrome Directory. Two sets of concrete tie downs are available. Local details can also be obtained from Queen's Cottage owners who have a Cessna T210 and self-launching PIK20E glider. All aviators most welcome with courtesy car available to guests for local use.

About Queen's Cottage

The Queen's Cottage was built in 1961 by the Snowy Mountains Authority for visiting dignitaries and senior management. Built in a commanding position with stunning views across the township of Khancoban, the Lady Hudson Rose Garden, Khancoban Lake and towards Mt. Kosciuszko.
